OBJECTIVE
Cornell University asked us to help them develop a new user-centered website for their Dean of Students (DOS), the department that oversees all non-academic services: clubs, support resources, student government, housing, etc. The project goal was to create a web presence that improves communication with Cornell students, families, faculty, and alumni. Our experience goal was to “support the holistic development of students at Cornell.”
OUR CONCEPT
Our concept focused on the idea of community, which was the common thread from our research. To flesh out what community meant, we used familiar campus locations as experience metaphors: the library, bulletin boards, and the commons. Our final concept merged ideas from these three metaphors.
MY CONTRIBUTIONS
This project was very collaborative and everyone on the team contributed to all processes and deliverables. A few personal contributions worth calling out:
- Guided our internal design processes.
- Developed a coding system for extracting insights from research notes.
- Helped define personas and user journeys.
- Helped develop core experience vision.
- Designed all wireframes.

RESEARCH & REQUIREMENTS GATHERING
During our on-site at Cornell, we conducted a co-design session with key university stakeholders. This included quick guided sketching sessions and group voting.

OUTPUT / DELIVERABLES
I created fifteen wireframes to communicate our vision to the university and provide direction for the development team. A requirements document that included annotated wireframes and the sitemap were our final deliverables.
